Staying Hungry for God: Devour His Word (Part Two)

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
No one expects to stay physically healthy by eating one meal a week. Our bodies need regular nourishment to grow, stay strong, and function properly. The same principle applies to our spiritual lives.
Many believers desire to grow closer to God, yet struggle because they rarely spend consistent time in His Word. The Bible is not simply a book we own or read when we need encouragement. It is essential to our spiritual growth.
Jesus reminds us that physical food is not our only need. We need the Word of God to shape our hearts, strengthen our faith, and guide our lives.
To remain spiritually hungry, we must develop a consistent appetite for Scripture.
One: Consume God’s Truth Consistently
Spiritual growth requires consistent nourishment. We cannot expect to thrive if we only turn to God's Word in a crisis.
The psalmist says:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
God’s Word gives us direction when life is confusing. It exposes deception, strengthens our convictions, and helps us understand His ways.
Every time we spend time in Scripture, we allow God’s truth to shape our thinking and guide our decisions.
Consistency matters.
Two: Cherish God’s Word Completely
Reading the Bible is only the beginning. We are called to treasure it, believe it, obey it, and allow it to shape how we live.
God’s Word comforts us when we are hurting, corrects us when we wander, convicts us when we sin, and equips us to live faithfully.
It is not simply information for our minds. It is truth that should transform our lives.
When we cherish God’s Word, we stop reading simply to gain knowledge and begin reading with a desire to know God and become more like Christ.
Keep Your Appetite for God’s Word
A spiritually hungry believer never outgrows the need for Scripture.
As you open your Bible each day, do not approach it as another task to complete. Come with a willing heart, ready to learn, listen, and respond to what God has revealed.
Read His Word. Reflect on His truth. Live it out.
Stay hungry. Keep growing. Keep feeding on His Word.
