Refuse to Quit

Keep Moving Until God Says You’re Finished

Nearly everyone begins with enthusiasm. A new year starts with resolutions. A new ministry begins with excitement. A new believer is eager to grow. But somewhere along the journey, discouragement arrives. Progress seems slow. Opposition increases. Prayers seem unanswered. It is often in those moments that the temptation to quit becomes strongest.

The Christian life was never meant to be a short sprint; it is a lifelong race. God is not simply looking for believers who start well. He desires disciples who remain faithful and finish well.

The Apostle Paul did not become one of history’s greatest servants of Christ because he avoided hardship. He became an example of faithfulness because he continued through hardship, opposition, disappointment, and suffering without abandoning his calling.

If you are weary today, take heart. Your setback is not your finish line. As long as God is still working, there is still a reason to keep moving forward. Instead of looking for an exit, look to the One who gives you strength for the next step.

So, how can believers develop the determination to keep going when life becomes difficult? Scripture gives us two powerful principles that help us refuse to quit.

One: Remember God’s Promises

Galatians 6:9 says, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Every believer experiences seasons when faithfulness feels unnoticed. We pray, serve, give, forgive, and obey, yet sometimes wonder whether any of it matters.

In those moments, God reminds us that our faithfulness is never wasted. Paul tells us not to grow weary because there is a harvest connected to faithful perseverance. We may not know when it will come or what it will look like, but we can trust the God who sees every act of obedience.

God’s timing may differ from ours, but His faithfulness never changes. Every step of obedience is an opportunity to trust Him, even when the results are not immediately visible.

When discouragement whispers, “Nothing is happening,” remember that God is still at work. What feels hidden to you is not hidden from Him.

Two: Run with Perseverance

The Christian life is not about speed; it is about endurance. God has not called us to outrun everyone else. He has called us to remain faithful to the race He has placed before us.

Hebrews 12:1–2 reminds us to “run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”

Sometimes what hinders our progress is sin. Other times it may be fear, disappointment, comparison, bitterness, or exhaustion. Whatever keeps us from running faithfully must be laid aside.

Most importantly, we are instructed to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

When our focus shifts entirely to our problems, quitting can begin to feel reasonable. But when our eyes remain on Christ, we find the strength to keep going. He is the author and finisher of our faith, and He gives us grace for every step of the journey.

Your strength may be limited, but God’s grace is sufficient. You may feel tired, but you do not have to walk alone.

So, keep trusting when you cannot see. Keep praying when the answer seems delayed. Keep obeying when the results are not immediate.

And keep reminding yourself:

I will remember God’s promises.

I will run with perseverance.

And by His grace, I will refuse to quit.
