TRUTH FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

Text: Psalm 78:1–8

“We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord…” – Psalm 78:4

Psalm 78 offers us a clear command: truth must not end with us. If a generation grows up without the knowledge of God, it is not merely a tragedy—it is a failure of stewardship. Judges 2:10 warns us of this very thing: "Then another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what He had done for Israel.”

If we want a future that honors God, we must take action today. Here’s how:

1. REMEMBER THE TRUTH

"I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us…" – Psalm 78:2–3

We cannot pass on what we have forgotten. That’s why it starts with remembering God's Word.Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” And John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

To raise a generation that lives for God, we must first treasure His Word, reflect on His wonders, and keep His truth close to heart.

2. REVEAL THE TRUTH

It is the responsibility of the current generation to teach the next.Proverbs 22:6 reminds us: “Train up a child in the way he should go…”We are not simply shaping minds—we are shaping eternal destinies.

Jesus said in John 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Truth is liberating. When passed down with love and consistency, it gives the next generation a foundation for faith and freedom.

3. REAP THE REWARD OF TRUTH

When truth is faithfully shared, powerful results follow:

  • They will teach their childrenPsalm 78:6–7 reminds us this is a generational calling. We’re not only raising godly children—we're equipping future spiritual leaders.

  • They will set their hope in God

“Blessed are those whose hope is in the Lord…” – Psalm 146:5When God's truth is taught, hope becomes a habit.
  • They will not forget God’s works

“Forget not all His benefits…” – Psalm 103:2Gratitude and reverence are born when children grow up hearing testimonies of God's goodness.
  • They will obey His commandsTeaching truth trains hearts to walk in obedience. God's Word doesn’t just inform—it transforms.

Final Charge

The next generation is watching. Listening. Learning. What they know about God tomorrow depends on what we share about Him today.

Let’s remember His truth, reveal His truth, and raise a generation that is strong in faith, full of hope, and unshaken in obedience.

Amen.
