The Blessing of His Principles: A Godly Father Teaches Truth (Part Three)

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

One of the greatest blessings a godly father can give his family is the blessing of truth. In a world filled with conflicting voices, shifting values, and constant distractions, children need more than opinions. They need God's unchanging Word.

A godly father understands that his responsibility is not simply to prepare his children for success in life, but to help them walk with God throughout life. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children..." God never intended biblical instruction to be left to the church alone. He calls fathers to be active teachers of truth within their homes.

Teaching truth goes beyond family devotions or occasional conversations. It involves intentionally helping children understand how God's Word applies to everyday life. Whether teaching honesty, integrity, humility, responsibility, forgiveness, or faith, a godly father is continually shaping the values that will guide his children long after they leave his home.

But truth is not only taught through words. It is also taught through example.

Children often learn more from what they observe than from what they are told. They watch how their father responds to pressure, treats other people, manages his responsibilities, handles disappointment, and honors God in daily life. Paul wrote, "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). A godly father recognizes that his life is a lesson before his family every day.

When a father's words and actions agree, he builds trust, credibility, and influence. His example gives weight to his instruction and helps his children see that God's truth is not merely something to believe, but something to live.

One practical way to do this is to focus on a biblical principle each week. It may be honesty, diligence, humility, faith, forgiveness, or kindness. Talk about it, demonstrate it, and create opportunities for your family to practice it together. The principles you teach should be visible in the way you live.

A godly father's influence reaches far beyond the walls of his home. The truths he plants today can become the convictions that guide his children tomorrow. While culture continues to change, God's Word remains constant, providing wisdom, direction, and stability for every generation.

The blessing of a father's principles is not measured only by what he says, but by what he faithfully lives. When a father teaches truth and walks in truth, he gives his family a priceless gift: a foundation strong enough to withstand life's pressures and a compass that continually points them back to God.

A godly father does more than raise children. He helps shape disciples by teaching truth that lasts long after his voice has grown silent.
