REASONS NOT TO WORRY

Worry is a heavy burden—an anxious preoccupation with things we cannot control. It creates uneasiness in our minds and hearts, often rooted in fear of what might happen. But to worry is also to take on responsibilities God never meant for us to carry. It subtly says, “God, I don’t trust You with this.”

At its core, worry is a failure to recognize that God is greater than any challenge we face and that His love compels Him to work for our highest good—even in difficulty.

Common Areas of Worry

  • Daily Provision

  • Health

  • Employment

  • The Future

  • Life and Death

  • Finances

  • Relationships (Children, Family, Friends)

  • Public Opinion and People-Pleasing

Yet, the Bible is clear: Christians are not called to worry.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” — Philippians 4:6

In Matthew 6, Jesus gives us six powerful reasons not to worry:

1. Life Is More Than Food

“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink.” — Matthew 6:25

God reminds us that the value of life far exceeds the basic needs we stress about. If He gave us life, He will surely sustain it.

2. Your Body Is More Than Clothing

“Nor about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” — Matthew 6:25

God cares for your whole being. He knows your needs, and He’s not indifferent to them.

3. You Are More Valuable Than the Birds

“Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” — Matthew 6:26

Birds don’t sow or reap, yet God feeds them daily. How much more will He provide for His children?

4. Worry Changes Nothing

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” — Matthew 6:27

Worry adds stress, not solutions. It drains energy but never delivers results.

5. Even the Flowers Don’t Worry

“Consider the lilies of the field… not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” — Matthew 6:28–30

If God clothes the wildflowers with such beauty, won’t He take care of you—His beloved creation?

6. Worry Distracts from the Kingdom

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33–34

God wants our focus on Him—not tomorrow’s problems. Today has enough trouble of its own. Worry robs us of peace in the present and distracts us from God’s purpose.

Final Word: Rest in Christ

If you don’t yet know Jesus as Savior, worry may feel like a constant companion. But Jesus offers a better way:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest… For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28–30

When you give your life to Him, He replaces your worry with peace and your fear with faith. Let go of the weight—He’s strong enough to carry it for you.

Amen.
