2 Timothy 2:22 – “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”
What does it mean to truly pursue God?To pursue something means to chase it with intent, to go after it wholeheartedly, with the desire to attain it. You don’t pursue what you don’t value—and if we truly value God, we will pursue Him passionately.
If you’re not actively pursuing God, today is the best day to start.
What Does Pursuing God Look Like?
1. It Requires Passion
Pursuing God starts with desire, but passion alone isn’t enough. Real passion pushes us into action. Just as an athlete trains hard or a musician practices daily, so must we engage in spiritual disciplines to grow closer to God.
“The most important commandment,” Jesus said, “is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.” (Mark 12:30)
2. It Takes Perseverance
Pursuing God isn’t always easy. It involves pressing through emotional fatigue, distractions, and trials. It’s choosing to keep going even when you don’t feel like it — because you know the One you’re chasing is worth it.
3. It Demands Discipline
One-time efforts won’t cut it. Just like physical training, spiritual growth requires consistency. The more we practice prayer, study, worship, and obedience, the more natural our pursuit of God becomes.
4. It Thrives in Community
2 Timothy 2:22 reminds us to pursue righteousness with others who are seeking God with pure hearts. Spiritual growth happens best in godly community—where encouragement, accountability, and unity sharpen us.
Five Marks of a Passionate Pursuer
1. A Yielded Heart
A heart surrendered to Jesus is fully under His leadership. It’s teachable, humble, and sensitive to God’s voice—even in chaos.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
2. A Focused Mind
Staying focused on God guards our peace. A mind renewed by the Word resists distraction and dwells on truth.
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, all whose thoughts are fixed on You.” (Isaiah 26:3)See also: Romans 12:1–2, Philippians 4:8–9
3. A Surrendered Will
Surrender means releasing our plans for His. It’s choosing obedience over comfort.
Esther said, “If I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16)Jesus said, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)
4. A Committed Lifestyle
True commitment to Christ expresses itself not just in belief but in daily choices, habits, and witness.Commitment isn’t about perfection—it’s about consistency in devotion to God’s Kingdom and His cause.
5. A Consistent Attitude
Talent might get you started, but consistency sustains the journey. Daniel’s prayer life didn’t waver—even under pressure.
“He knelt down three times a day, and prayed and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.” (Daniel 6:10)
Final Encouragement
If you want to experience the fullness of God, you must pursue Him—intentionally, consistently, and wholeheartedly.
“Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
