Part Three: Rekindling Holy Fire

2 Timothy 1:6

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.”

Paul does not tell Timothy to ask God for something new. He tells him to stir up what is already there.

This reveals an important truth:

Spiritual fire does not always need replacement, it often needs rekindling.

Fire does not die because it is unwanted.

Fire dies because it is neglected.

But when it is fed, it spreads.

God has never withdrawn His desire for His people to burn brightly.

Major Point: Return to Your First Love

Revelation 2:4

“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”

Revelation 3:19

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”

Rekindling holy fire always begins with relational restoration.

It is not first about activity, it is about returning to intimacy.

Revelation 2:5 gives us a clear and powerful blueprint:

“Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works…”

Within this instruction are three simple, but powerful keys:

One: Remember

Before the fire is restored, it must first be recalled.

Remember when prayer felt alive.

Remember when worship was not routine, but encounter.

Remember when obedience was immediate, not delayed.

Remember when conviction was tender and clear.

Psalm 77:11

“I will remember the works of the Lord; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.”

Memory awakens gratitude, and gratitude rekindles affection.

Two: Repent

Repentance is not punishment, it is realignment.

It is turning:

  • from distraction back to devotion

  • from apathy back to affection

  • from indifference back to intimacy

Psalm 51:10

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Where repentance is genuine, restoration is inevitable.

Three: Return

Returning is not a feeling; it is a decision.

It is choosing to go back to the places where your fire was once strong:

  • private prayer

  • deep engagement with the Word

  • surrendered, heartfelt worship

God is not distant or reluctant.

He responds quickly to a heart that returns.

Practical Steps to Rekindle the Fire

Spiritual renewal is not just a moment; it is sustained through intentional steps.

Here are a few ways to begin:

  • Commit to reading Scripture out loud daily for the next 7 days

  • Set a fixed prayer time and keep it consistently

  • Serve in an area you have been avoiding

  • Share one testimony of what God has done in your life this week

  • Fast one meal and use that time to seek God intentionally

Small, consistent steps can reignite great spiritual fire.

Spiritual fire can be restored. Passion can return. Intimacy can be renewed.

But it begins with a decision to remember, repent, and return.
